Five new affordable homes are being built in Semington as the council continues on it's quest to build 1,000 affordable homes to address local needs.

The rural site, near Trowbridge and Melksham, has connections to both local amenities and the countryside.

These five homes follow six that were delivered on the same in 2022, with a mixture of rental properties for people with a housing need on the council’s housing register and shared ownership, helping people to get their first home at a lower price entry point or maintain a position on the housing ladder at an affordable cost to them.

Cllr Phil Alford, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “These new affordable homes will help people with a local connection to stay in the Semington area and will be a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership homes to provide options for people who are looking to rent or buy at an affordable price.

“The homes are all expected to achieve an energy rating of A which will mean significantly lower running costs for residents – this is a key priority for us as it will help people to manage the cost of living and improve their health and wellbeing.

“Our council house build programme will see millions invested in building and acquiring new, energy and cost-efficient council homes, with 174 delivered so far and another 532 in the pipeline. We are also making a substantial investment to improve existing council homes to ensure they achieve a minimum energy performance rating of B. This project is providing high quality places for people to live, in the communities where they are needed and at a price they can afford. We look forward to seeing this project continue to deliver the homes people need across the county.”

The homes were secured using a Section 106 agreement and are being delivered under a Development Agreement. The council is also continuing to engage with local and regional developers to build homes in this way as part of the council house build programme.
