Second person dies following fatal collision on A36 near Knook

It follows the death of Robert Best on Sunday following the crash

A second person has died following a fatal crash on the A36 near Knook which took place last weekend.

Officers from Wiltshire Police were alerted to an incident taking place on the A36 close to the village of Knook at around 10:30am on Saturday (May 31st).

When responders arrived at the scene, they found that a car had collided with three motorcycles, with all motorcyclists requiring immediate medical treatment.

Emergency services were called to the scene a short time later, and despite the best efforts of paramedics, one of the riders was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was later named as 62-year-old Robert Best from Bradley Stoke, who had been travelling to Normandy when the collision happened.

The remaining two drivers were taken to hospital to be treated, and in an update released by police, a second motorcyclist has since died of their injuries.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said that a woman in her 60s who had also been travelling in the motorcycle group in a pillion died in hospital.

Officers were quick to clarify that the woman was not in the same vehicle as Robert.

Meanwhile, an appeal for information and witnesses relating to the fatal crash remains open to the public.
