A36 COLLISION: Car was being pursued by police

A vehicle crashed into a wall at Petersfinger

A serious crash on the A36 Southampton near Salisbury early this morning (Wednesday 6th July) followed a police pursuit by Hampshire officers.

A Vauxhall Astra collided with a wall at the turn at Petersfinger just after 3.00am.

The vehicle was being pursued by police and failed to stop, and no other vehicles were involved.

A 45 year old man who was driving the Astra, has been taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.

His female passenger suffered minor injuries.

Hampshire Police tell us a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) about the incident.

ROAD REOPENED

As a result of the collision, the A36 had been closed for over 13 hours today.

Wiltshire Police tell us the road reopened to traffic at 4.30pm.
