A Levels: Salisbury schools hail great results
Bishop Wordsworth and South Wilts Grammar have congratulated students
Last updated 15th Aug 2024
Salisbury schools and colleges are celebrating a decent set of A Level results for their students today (Thursday 15th August).
Across the country, the number of top A-level grades has increased marginally - with 27.8% marked A* or A.
Although the rate increased in England, it fell in Wales and Northern Ireland.
Bishop Wordsworth School say their students have 'maintained the high standards set in previous years once again'.
In a statement, Headteacher Dr Stuart Smallwood said:
"For the year group of 196 students, both boys and girls, 74% of papers were passed at A-B, with 46% at either A or A. 14 of our students gained A* grades in all of the A level subjects that they took, and a total of 54 students passed every one of their papers at A or better.
"As usual I am absolutely thrilled at the level of personal success that this represents, and I am so very grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to ensure that our students hit the summits once again. Most importantly of all the calibre of these results will mean that BWS students will be taking up places in the most competitive post-18 courses countrywide."
There's also similar praise for those at South Wilts Grammar School on Stratford Road.
They've said: "This year 177 students sat their A Level exams, and we are exceptionally pleased with their results. Our students continue to excel, and the results were an improvement from the strong results we saw in 2023.
"A high proportion of our students were accepted onto their first-choice universities or degree apprenticeships, including six students with offers for medicine, two for veterinary science and 100% success for those with Oxbridge places. This year’s success is a testament to the students’ positive approach to their studies and sheer hard work.
"The SWGS co-educational Sixth Form continues to go from strength-to-strength, combining strong academic excellence alongside a friendly, nurturing environment. As we wish our outgoing cohort all the very best for the future, we look forward to welcoming a new generation of sixth form students in the forthcoming weeks."
There's also been some of the best results ever recorded at Salisbury 6th form.
Advice from Wiltshire Council
The local authority has congratulated students for their dedication and hard work.
Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said:
“Congratulations to young people picking up results today. Their years of hard work and commitment are commendable and they should be proud of their achievements. Recognition should also go to the dedicated and talented staff who have brought alive these subjects and given young people the inspiration and support to achieve. Also the families who have supported their young people through the highs and lows of study.
“If there are students who don’t quite have the results they wanted or are unsure of what to do next, there is a whole range of advice out there to help. So don’t worry, speak to your school or college, use the support available and you will find the path that’s right for you. Good luck to everyone.”
