There are warnings of floods and powercuts today - as the East is braced for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office - which is asking the public to plan ahead and take care.

Elle Wilson is a meteorologist from the Met office and has this advice: "Just take care if you're out and about.

"Make sure you plan your travel ahead of time and keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings."

She says it's not the most surprising weather for the season, though: "It's not completely unreasonable to see yellow weather warnings through August, particularly for thunderstorms.

"We often see heavy and thundery showers through the summer months.

"The wind on the south coast is slightly more unusual. It's due to an area of low pressure tracking across the UK."

The warning is in force from 9am until 7pm tonight.
