A British-Ukrainian business owner from Stamford says he's more concerned about the war in Ukraine than ever before, following a recent trip to Eastern Europe.

Dan Zenchuk was out volunteering on the frontline in Lviv and Kyiv, to meet some of the citizens he'd been supporting from afar since February 2022.

He tells Greatest Hits Radio the new relationships he's made with people there makes him that much more worried about Russian missile attacks:

'On Friday this week I expect we're going to see a real bombardment on the anniversary (of the invasion) but I've now got even more friends and contacts in Ukraine that I made during our visit', he said.

'There's a lot more people to think about there now every time we see something happening.'

How Ukraine's needs have shifted over the course of the war

Reflecting on the past year, Mr Zenchuk said it's clear that the type of support Ukraine needs now has changed.

'Day one (of the war) it was grab anything you can - clothes, food, bedding; anything you could get out there, put it on a lorry they need it.'

'They're a lot more refined now with what they actually need as the war has gone on and they've adapted.'

He added: 'One of the fundraising efforts we're doing at the minute is to provide a family with temporary housing in Moschun.'

'They've already put one-hundred temporary housing units there and they need one-hundred more, so that's two-hundred housing units; each can accommodate a family of four. That's just one village.'

'...That shows the true scale of devastation.'
