A new woodland tribute's been set up in honour of those who've passed away from coronavirus across Rutland.

Trees have been planted by Anglian Water and Uppingham rotary club in Whitwell, with the area expected to open to visitors later this year.

The project's cost over £1,200 in total, after the rotary club raised the funds on their 'JustGiving' page.

Carolyn Cartwright is the president of Uppingham rotary club:

"It'll be nice for people who've lost loved ones during this pandemic to have a place to go, where they can contemplate and reflect.

"We've planted the trees in a horseshoe, which's representative of Rutland, and now we want to raise more cash for benches and a plaque, so that everyone who visits can see exactly what the memorial is for.

"Down the line, we think it'd also be nice to plant bulbs and primroses that will come out next spring. That will make it a very pretty area."
