The four-day bank holiday weekend is finally here, and there's plenty for Rutland residents to get involved with to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Rutland, Sarah Furness, said:

'We're all living through a real piece of history. The Queen is the longest serving monarch in British history.'

'We're hoping everyone gets their bunting out and flags - we want everybody to celebrate, all villages, towns and households to hang out a flag for this very special occasion.'

Thursday 2nd June

Beacons will be lit in Rutland and across the nation on the evening of the first day of the bank holiday.

There's plans in place across the county, including in Ketton, Hambledon, Stretton, Uppingham and North Luffenham - where refreshments are likely being served.

Friday 3rd June

On Friday there will be live music and parties held in celebration of the Jubilee at pubs and community spaces in Ketton, North and South Luffenham.

Saturday 4th June

The big one - the annual Rutland County Show has been brought forward a day to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, while there's plenty else going on as well.

There's various parades, shows, live music, and feasts going on in Whissendine and Greetham as well.

Sunday 5th June

A day of street parties - this is the date where residents are being encouraged to come together to eat as a community at picnics, Jubilee lunches and fetes.

There's a massive hog roast in Ketton, tea and cakes in Whissendine, street party picnics in South Luffenham and other events centred around lunch across the county.

All weekend

If you miss out on any of those things, there's a number of opportunities to celebrate the Jubilee throughout the weekend.

Oakham Castle will have installed a Floral Tribute, while a time capsule is being buried in Whissendine containing details of the 2022 celebrations, some notes about the 1953 coronation and details about various clubs and societies in the village.

School children aged 4-16 can visit South Luffenham Village Hall to pick up a free commemorative mug - and there will be Jubilee Celebrations at Cutt's Close in Oakham from 2nd-5th June.

...oh, and Rutland's pubs stay open an hour later as well.
