Werrington Fields decision delayed
The item was due to be discussed at last night's Council meeting
The decision on whether Werrington Fields will be kept open to the community has been delayed.
It had been due for discussion at Peterborough City Council's Full Meeting last night, but was delayed.
Decisions are due to be made about if the land should be leaded to the 4Cs Academy Trust, something that campaigners say shouldn't happen.
Last night, it was confirmed by councillors that the item agenda of Werrington Fields had been deferred, after a letter was received from the Department for Education, just before the meeting.
The decision was made to delay the discussion, so all members could have time to see the letter.
Councillor Katy Cole, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, went on to explain that the fence decision is still something that will be focused on moving forward, and said "We will not give up hope of finding a solution that pleases as many people as possible."
Campaigners have previously voiced their concerns surrounding the fencing off of the field to the public, stating it would impact both their physical and mental health.
Ken Stimpson Academy says they need all the land for educational use which needs to be fenced off to ensure safeguarding of students.
Peterborough City Council are keen to make a compromise, allowing "all parties not to get everything they want but get what they need."
