The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covering Rutland and Stamford, as forecasters expect heavy rain and potential disruption.

The warning covers most of England and Wales.

Up to 60mm of rain could fall inside three hours in some places as showers and thunderstorms develop into Wales and northern and central England.

The thunderstorm warning runs until 6am on Wednesday, while a separate warning for rain in Scotland is in place from Wednesday until 6am on Thursday, forecasters saying "heavy and persistent periods of rain (will lead) to accumulations of 100-120mm in some locations".

Ten flood alerts are still in place in southern England.

What to expect

- Difficult driving conditions and possibly some road closures due to road spray and surface water

- Disruption to public transport where flooding or lightning strikes occur, including cancellations to train and bus services

- There is a small chance of flooding to homes and businesses, with damage to some from floodwater or lightning strikes
