Two people have died in a car crash in Rutland

It happened on Friday night on the A47 Leicester Road

Leicestershire police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after two people died in a car crash in Rutland.

Officers were called to the A47 Leicester Road, near Belton in Rutland just after 6.15 on Friday (18 November).

The collision involved a red Hyundai i10 and a brown Citroen C4. The occupants of the Hyundai – a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s – were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Citroen – a man in his 30s – suffered injuries that were not life-threatening or life-changing.

The road was closed for around 12 hours while investigations were carried out.

Detective Constable Anna Thorpe, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said in a statement: 'Our investigation into the incident is continuing and I am asking for any motorists who were on the A47 to come forward.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone with a dashcam in their vehicle, who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to it occurring.

“I also know there may be some drivers who stopped at the scene but left prior to emergency services arriving. If you have any information you think could help, no matter how insignificant it is, then please get in touch.”
