A Rutland car dealer says 'why not?' over the idea of people in self-driving cars being able to watch TV.

It's after changes to The Highway Code will see news laws drawn up for when self-driving vehicles are allowed on UK roads.

Currently they're illegal, but it's thought that they could become available this year.

The Government say any use of the mobile phone is still prohibited, and drivers must be prepared to take the wheel if necessary.

A gimmick, or revolutionary technology?

Owen Tate, Sales Director at Adams and Sons, says he prefers more traditional vehicles - but it's only a matter of time before that type of technology becomes the norm:

'I drive older cars and motorbikes - it's not something I desire to have in a car myself, however, as time moves on these things will just be in them, so no doubt I will have that in a car but I will probably turn it off - it's not for me.'

'People do like technology, especially in cars, whether they use them all the time is a different thing. A lot of it is gimmicky things and they just play with it, show their mates at the pub, and probably never use it again.'

'If autonomous cars prove to be reliable, they're safe and nobody has any issues with them, then yeah, why not? Have a brew, watch the telly, chill out - if it works, it works - if it doesn't, then I'm sure they'll do something about it.'
