The Mayor of Stamford, William Turner has sadly died.

He started the role last year, following the death of the then mayor Maxine Couch.

Tributes have been flooding in from those who knew him.

Cllr Amanda Wheeler said:

"I am truly devastated to learn of the loss of Bill Tuner, he was a wonderful man, a clever and kind mayor and I will always remember his kindness to me when I joined the council.

"My condolences to his family and friends, he will be sorely missed across all of Stamford".

Yvette Diaz-Munoz from Stamford Anti-Racism Group said:

"We were really sad to hear of the passing of William Turner, the Stamford Mayor, he was a member of our group and really supportive of the Stamford World Cook book that we are publishing and the Stamford diversity festival in the summer.

"As a tribute to him, we've put a recipe on our group Facebook page, which he provided for us.

"It's a recipe for Guatemalan beef casserole, which he provided saying it was his nieces favourite dish, who lives near the border. So, if anyone wants to try out his recipe, it's on our public Facebook page".
