The Care Board that covers Rutland says plans for the new same day health services are not set in stone
Today is the last day of a public consultation that's asking residents for their feedback
The Integrated Care Board (ICB) that covers Rutland says the publics views will be considered for the new same day health services.
Under the new proposals, two existing local services, the Minor Injuries Unit and the Urgent Care Centre would be brought together, creating a Minor Illness and Injury Service.
This would be open seven days a week in Rutland Memorial Hospital.
Today is the last day of a public consultation that's collecting feedback from residents.
It's about asking people if they approve of this and whether they have different views
Dr James Burden, local GP and Rutland Clinical Place Lead for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board (LLR ICB) said:
“As part of the new proposals we will be looking to provide services from one place, with a consistent way of booking appointments and easy to remember opening times."
"As well as improving the quality of care, it would also mean that patients will be able to have a better experience in modernised facilities.”
"I think people are fearful that this is a cut in services, but I don't think it is, and there's actually an increase in the number of appointments."
"But this isn't all set. The public consultation is about asking people if they approve of this and whether they have different views on how this should be run."
"All of the feedback will be collated, and we will ensure that we haven't overlooked areas or considered how any chance will affect people."
An increase in the number of appointments
The ICB says the new proposals have been developed to help improve services for local people by bolstering access to same-day services and increasing the availability of out of hours care when GP practices are closed.
Currently the number of appointments offered in Rutland each year via the Minor Injuries Unit and the Urgent Care Centre is approximately 6,785 and under the new proposals the number of available appointments is hoped to increase to 7,644.
