Successful Olympics for athletes across Peterborough as the event comes to close today
Cyclist Ed Lowe who's from Stamford took silver in the men's team sprint alongside two teammates
As the Olympics finish we are hearing what the success of a silver medal winning cyclist means to the community across Peterborough.
Ed Lowe from Stamford won it in the men's team sprint alongside two teammates Hamish Turnbull, and Jack Carlin earlier this week.
Malc Jacklin Youth is a cycling coach with Fenland Clarion Cycling Club in Peterborough:
"Ed came to us when he was about seven almost eight - he'd done a little bit of riding with his father and was interested in it and wanted to do some more.
"It's one of those very unusual circumstances - you don't expect to know an Olympian, never mind that actually started amongst us and do what we do. We all just do it as a hobby."
Malc says it was great to actually watch Ed take part in the race:
"There was a lot of excitement amongst the local cycling community and especially in the club, because quite a few of us did know him.
"It was closely watched and enjoyed!"
The interest in the sport locally has already seen a boost:
Malc says: "We've already had more enquires even before he actually appeared in the Olympics - just the talk of him going boosted the interest in cycling in our youth section."
Jamie Pinguenet was Head of PE at Kings School in Peterborough when Ed was there - he says they already have a cycling vest of his in a 'hall of fame':
"I guess I'm going to have to reframe it and add Olympic silver medallist to the title.
"It's absolutely fantastic. We very much hope that students will look up to him and what he's achieved and think yeah I can do this as well.
He tells us Ed's family have been keeping him in the loop over the years:
"His mum in particular has been keeping me up to date with his progress since he left us four or five years ago. It's been really nice to follow his story.
Meanwhile Peterborough gymnast Jake Jarman took bronze on the floor at the Olympics.
