Broadcaster and comedian Stephen Fry has given his support for a new campaign aiming to get Rutland the UK's first fully 'dementia friendly county'.

Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearn's launched her campaign last month, 'Rutland's Great Dementia Conservation', to increase dementia awareness in the county.

Fry went to school in Uppingham before being expelled during sixth form.

Now, in a video posted online, Fry said we should be less frightened to talk about it.

He added: "It is real and it has to be recognised, but it doesn't have to stop you doing all the things you love.

"Driving, seeing friends, living. loving, doing everything humans do.

"If you feel a change, go and see a doctor about it.

"I think it would be a wonderful thing if Rutland became the county that was more aware of dementia."
