Stamford Women's Rugby have started out i style, with a stunning win in their first ever match.

Yesterday afternoon (16th January), they thrashed Gainsborough 67-14.

In the lead-up to the game, the team had received messages of support from across the board of rugby.

Speaking before the match, Ann-Marie Mullen, the club's captain, told Greatest Hits Radio it's huge for women's sport in Stamford: "I think it's amazing. When I was in school, you didn't have rugby teams, football teams. You're seeing it more and more now.

"Having a women's rugby team just encourages other girls. I with I'd done rugby when I was in my twenties. I really missed out, so now I'd love to encourage more girls to come along, even to try it out."
