Volunteers needed to run new Stamford visitor centre
It's hoped it will help people see the best of the town
It's hoped a new visitor centre for Stamford will make sure visitors see the best of the town.
A team of volunteers is planning to launch it in St John's Church, on Wednesday 13th April, but are looking for more people to join them so they can be open more often.
As well as offering visitors advice, maps and information, it's hoped the centre will act as a hub for community events.
Stamford tour guide Jill Collinge came up with the idea. She told Greatest Hits Radio: "It was my idea to have a welcome for the visitors to the town, but also that it would act as a hub for the community. So when there are any events happening, they can bring their brochures in, or even have a little display of what their event is going to be.
"We can spend time telling them about our beautiful town of Stamford. Often the questions that are asked are, 'I'm here for an hour on a coach tour, I want a cup of coffee, and what would be the best things to see in the town?'
"This is where our volunteers can come in and make the best of their visit to Stamford."
Jill added that they are in need of more volunteers, hoping it will mean the centre can open seven days a week, instead of three: "We're having this coffee morning on Wednesday (19th January) for the volunteers, and we have about 28 now.
"The town are very keen on this, they think it's a wonderful idea. I think we will get our full quota of volunteers."
