Stamford trio raise over £1,200 in honour of their late friend who died following a night out in York
They're hoping a new state-of-the-art rescue boat can be purchased in the city
A Stamford man's been pushing himself to his physical limit, in memory of his friend who tragically lost his life in York two years ago.
22-year-old Charlie Tyler's been running four miles every four hours, for two days straight alongside two of his friends, in an effort to raise funds for a new rescue boat in York.
It's after 19-year-old Sonny Ferry from Stamford slipped into the river Ouse on a night out in North Yorkshire back in 2019 and sadly lost his life.
Mr. Tyler and his mates have managed to raise over £1,200 in total, which will go to the York Rescue Charity, courtesy of the Sunshine Campaign.
"We're fundraising because we really want to try and prevent another family from going through the trauma and pure agony of having to see a loved one pulled from the water.
"A new state-of-the-art boat would have a larger engine, which means it'd have a faster response time.
"This is incredibly important when rescuing a casualty out of cold water, and it's also got more advanced sonar equipment, which will make it easier for the team to detect submerged objects.
"The current boat which the charity rely on doesn't even give the crew the space to perform lifesaving procedures such as CPR. This will all change if the charity can eventually purchase this new boat."
