Stamford Street Pastors says it will be especially busy over Christmas and New Year.

The group works with the emergency services and late night pubs and clubs to help provide a safer night out in the town.

It aims to care for people in vulnerable positions late on a Saturday night.

"There are lots more people this time of year"

As more people are expected to be out over the festive period, the group is hoping to ensure a safer and more enjoyable time for everyone.

The Street Pastors coordinator, Ruth, said:

"It's very busy, and people are going out to have a good time, but we find it doesn't always work out how they want.

"There are lots more people this time of year and lots of people who might not be used to going out.

"They might not know the environment or where they're going.

"Often people get separated from their friends and feel vulnerable.

"I'd advise people to think ahead, so if you do get separated, where will you meet? Make a pact to stick together and make a plan for the evening with your friends so you know what you're doing.

"The Street Pastors give people a bit of hope that if something goes wrong, there will be someone there who can help them."

There are now 9000 trained volunteers in around 250 teams around the United Kingdom.

Stamford Street Pastors are usually out a minimum of one night a month, from around 9:30pm to around 3:30am.

The next patrol is Saturday 28th December.
