We're being urged not to forget about the needs of deaf people across Stamford and Rutland.

It's as communication has become more difficult for those who're hard of hearing during the pandemic, with the use of masks making it trickier to lip read.

10 year old Jack Fisher from Stamford struggles with his hearing.

He's been telling us about some of his experiences over the last 12 months:

"It's been pretty difficult in the pandemic with lots of people wearing masks.

"I've had to ask a lot of people to repeat themselves, because it's really hard to hear what they're saying-I just can't lip read them.

"Last year was pretty difficult, and this year has been the same, because there's been no interpreter during Boris' government announcements about coronavirus."

The youngster, who attends to Malcolm Sargent primary school in Stamford, says he has had some positive experiences as well:

"At school I've been in a small bubble and all the teachers have been wearing see through shields, which has been really helpful.

"It's really important that everyone learns how to be deaf aware, because a lot of deaf people are struggling in this world right now, so people should think about this topic more than they are doing right now."
