The head of Rugby in Stamford is telling us they hope the men's World Cup will increase participation after a slow few years.

"It's just trying to recapture the English game"

Matthew Albinson says participation decreased after Covid and they've struggled to get young people back into outdoor sports, but that things are improving.

He added: " Some fixtures have become predictable, so people aren't getting value for money.

"At a grassroots level, it's about trying to build some momentum and get people back in the game.

"As an amateur club we're trying to support the rebuild of that.

"We've seen a drastic improvement in the last two years, albeit their is that wider demographic that is quite worrying.

"Some of the low key countries that have just got into the world of rugby have seen a huge uptake, particularly in the women's game.

"It's just trying to recapture the English game a little bit more".
