Police in Stamford share advice after rise in reports of WhatsApp scam

Anybody who comes across the scam is asked to report it to Action Fraud

Police in Stamford have said they are seeing a rise in the number of reports about a WhatsApp scam.

People are reportedly getting messages from an unknown number, claiming to be from sons and daughters who have damaged, lost or had their phone stolen.

According to officers, the messages request to borrow money from the victim.

Advice on the Stamford, Bourne and Deeping Police Facebook page includes making sure to always verify requests in person or verbally.

Anybody who comes across the scam is asked to report it to Action Fraud.
