Stamford landlords back calls to open early for Women's World Cup Final
Authorities in parts of the country have agreed to turn a blind eye to pubs opening earlier
Pub-owners in Stamford are backing calls to let pubs open early for the Women's World Cup Final.
MPs have called on authorities to "turn a blind eye" for the one-off occasion this Sunday, over worries that pubs will be unable to serve pints or accommodate fans before kick off.
The Lionesses will play Spain in the Women's World Cup Final at 11am tomorrow (Sunday 20th August), but most pubs will likely be unable to serve alcohol before then.
Harry, who runs the London Inn Pub in Stamford, said a few hours could make all the difference for businesses:
'We do have a license to serve from 9am. But for venues that don't, an hour will make a massive difference.
If you think about it: five pounds a pint, If one hundred people have two each, that's an extra one-thousand pounds for business.'
'Hopefully they can understand that everybody should be open and serving drinks from the morning: it's a one-off.
The Women are in the World Cup Final, we should support them and we should have everything open to help businesses, as we all understand how difficult it is in hospitality these days.'
