Stamford's Ukrainian hosts and guests were treated to an evening of food and entertainment at Stamford College last night (June 7th).
Those invited were served canapes and drinks on arrival, and were greeted with some light jazz from saxophonist Jay Stebbs.
Guests were then given a full 5-course menu cooked by the College's catering and hospitality students, while being read poems by Stamford's Poet Laureate Scott Coe and Youth Poet Laureate Daniel Paice - which were translated into Ukrainian.
Guests, hosts and families then took the remainder of the evening to socialise and get to know one another.
The extensive ingredients list for the event was fully-funded by donations from the sales of a Ukraine Anthology, put together by Kathy Joyce and Amelia Billington at Stamford Diversity Group's Ukraine Peace Walk.
Funding also came from sales of a Stamford World Cook Book and international food sampling at Stamford Diversity Group's Jubilee event last Thursday (2nd June).
Councillor Amanda Wheeler told us it was a special occasion to be apart of: 'It's one of the most wonderful things about Stamford, it is such a great community and everyone's rallied together. Stamford College have provided so much for this evening, in terms of the venue, the staff, the food.'
'It's been the most fabulous evening and it's only just started, the atmosphere's great, people are buzzing and there's a real sense of companionship and positivity.'
Yvette Diaz-Munoz from Stamford Diversity Group said: 'All the students here at Stamford College are here voluntarily in their own time cooking and serving the food just out of the good of their heart really, so it's a beautiful thing.'
