Man jailed after stabbing friend in chest in Peterborough

A man who stabbed his friend in the chest following an argument has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison. Brandon Oakley, 24, was arrested on 24 October 2024 after his victim was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with a punctured lung.

The incident unfolded after Oakley, the victim, and another man had an argument on Eastfield Road in Eastfield, Peterborough, about an hour before the stabbing. The two men left the scene and went to a flat in Central Avenue, Dogsthorpe. Oakley later arrived at the flat, banging on the door and shouting, before another argument broke out.

Oakley then pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the chest. The victim collapsed unconscious, and police were called to the scene. Officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and the victim was taken to hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma.

Oakley fled the scene but was arrested later that evening, after investigators discovered CCTV footage of the entire incident.

At Cambridge Crown Court, Oakley, of no fixed address, admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife in a public place. He was sentenced to 12 years and three months in prison.

Detective Constable Angus Cashman, who investigated the case, said, "This was a completely disproportionate response to an argument which escalated and resulted in a man nearly losing his life. I would urge anyone with concerns about someone who may carry a weapon to report it to us."
