Moving towards net zero and creating more affordable housing are priorities for South Kesteven District Councillor.

Richard Cleaver has been in the position for three months following the local elections in May.

He emphasised the cost of living crisis has increased the need to more affordable housing.

Mr Cleaver also says public services need improving: "I personally will be lobbying very strongly that GP services are enhanced with this increasing population and that better rail and bus services are in place."

Plans for proposed Mallard Pass Solar Farm

SKDC declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has set a target to reduce its carbon footprint by at least 30%, with solar farms one method being use to achieve this.

Mallard Pass Solar Farm has been formally objected to by the local authority, but it is the Planning Inspectorate that will have the final say on whether it goes ahead.

If it does, Mr Cleaver suggests using rail to help build it.

He added: "I would love for all the materials to be bought on-site by rail; this is much more carbon neutral than having a fleet of trucks driving down the A1."
