There's a warning to holidaymakers across Peterborough, Stamford and Rutland as figures suggest significant numbers go abroad without travel insurance.

Around ten per cent head overseas without taking out a policy.

That could make it difficult if they're involved in an emergency.

Alan Gorrell works for the travel agency Aegean Blu Villas in Oakham and says that it could be costly for holiday goers.

He says: "Private hospitals can be expensive so medical bills can easily go into the thousands - tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands."

"It's always best to take travel insurance for medical reasons."

"The best time to take out your travel insurance is immediately after taking out your reservation."

"That way you're covered should you have to cancel."

"Young people are more likely to require travel insurance than older people."

"That's simply because they're more active and they're more likely to have an accident."
