The Lions Club of Rutland will be joining Santa and his sleigh, as they make their way around Oakham and Uppingham this December.

On their Facebook page, they've announced their schedule, which will start in Uppingham on the 14th December and finish in Oakham on Christmas eve:

The current restrictions under tier 2 means they are allowed to go ahead with the event, but must stick to the rule of 6.

Will anything be different this year?

Children won't be allowed to sit in Santa's sleigh

Santa’s elves will not be knocking on doors, but will be doing their best to ensure everyone knows when Santa is down their street.

The sleigh will have two post boxes one on each side, so children can post a letter to Santa.

A couple of elves will be close to the sleigh, wearing face masks and will ensure social distancing is maintained around the sleigh.

Santa’s aim is to stop as infrequently as possible; if a child wishes to post a letter to Santa, or someone wishes to make a cash donation, using a bucket on the sleigh.

Staying safe:

Anyone posting a letter or making a cash donation is asked to use hand sanitiser, and wear a face covering.

Although there will be a bucket for cash donations on the sleigh, people are encouraged to make a donation online through the Rutland Lions Just Giving page.

Santa asks that everyone follows the Covid 19, Hands, Face & Space good practice.

The Lions Club of Rutland's Facebook page states:

"Each day the evening’s route will be posted on Facebook along with a map to track Santa’s progress around the route. You will just need to navigate to the map and update or refresh your screen occasionally, enabling you to follow Santa to your door. Santa will also have one of his elves ahead of the sleigh with a seriously large bell, and of course the sleigh will be playing the usual Christmas carols and music.

The sleigh this year will have two post boxes, one on each side, to allow children to post a letter to Santa, with the template for this letter available shortly by downloading from Facebook or the website."
