The owner of Rutland Zoo admits she's been left 'concerned' by a recent suspected arson attack at the site.

Joanna Aldwinckle's been telling us more about what took place in the car park on Sykes Lane last Thursday morning.

"It was noticed that there was smoke coming out of my car by a member of staff and when we got down to the car the window was open a little - and there was a lot of black billowing smoke. We managed to put the fire out, and after it looked like it had been set alight at the corner front part of the drivers seat"

Rutland Zoo say they're hopeful they aren't being targeted:

Joanna says "I hope it's just an incident that's a one off, but we have had a couple of other incidents last week and one was a little bit suspect a couple of months ago. It could be linked up - but we're hoping it was a one off"

Owner of the zoo Joanna Aldwinckle has this message for those responsible "come down and visit us and have a look and meet our staff and meet us and see what our plan is for the future and what we want to do for conservation. And that we push for education and advocate for appropriate and ethical keeping of any animal"

Leicestershire Police say enquiries remain ongoing into the incident. It is believed to have happened between 9.45am and 10.45am on the 1st July.
