As temperatures here in Rutland plumet below zero a warm bank is announcing extended opening hours.

A yellow weather warning for ice comes into place today across much of the UK today.

Rutland is due to see temperatures of -1 degrees today, reaching -3 at the weekend.

In light of that, Ryhall Library will now be open for three days a week to help those of us worried about turning the heating on.

It’s now open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Friday, 10-4.

Charlotte Davis launched Ryhall Warm Welcome Spaces. She said:

“When we unlocked this morning there was still ice on the paths at 10am, it is really cold out there.

“So I anticipate that more people will want to come. We were worried no-one would come. That’s not happened at all.

“We’ve never had a day so far where no one has come. The least we’ve had in a day is 6, the most we’ve had is 12. We’re a village, to me that’s incredible.”
