Rutland war expert 'worried' over Moscow's response to Ukraine tank support
Germany's Leopard 2 tanks can cost anywhere between five and fifteen million dollars each
Rutland's own war expert Jeremy Hunter says Russia's response to the 'threat' of western tank support could be "a worry".
It's as the US confirmed it will send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to the warzone, while German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz approved the supply of the Leopard 2 to Kyiv.
War photographer Jeremy Hunter has spent a lifetime reporting on wars around the globe, and was out in Ukraine last year covering the conflict from ground zero.
He tells us he's concerned over how long Kyiv's western allies can continue their level of military aid:
'The only way for Ukraine to actually overcome the Russian invasion is for them to receive more weapons, and they have to be state of the art.'
'They are enormously expensive and I just have to question whether countries will be able to continue to fund at the level they have been in the past.'
'M142 HIMARS are a state of the art rocket system that have been supplied to Ukraine - they cost $5m dollars each and each rocket is about another $110,000...'
'...they fire six simultaneously. So that's $600,000 gone in five minutes.'
Mr Hunter added that Germany's 14 elite tanks cost anywhere between five and 15 million each, while Putin would consider the move a "threat":
'It's a threat. I personally don't see an escalation at the moment, but we mustn't forget that Russia are considering bringing in another 500,000 troops based in Belarus for a new spring offensive - so that is a worry.'
Jeremy said he hopes to return to Ukraine to continue his reportage in Spring.
