A breakfast club with a difference will be joining Remembrance Day celebrations across Rutland today.

Oakham Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast club is a community group that holds monthly meet- ups for veterans, offering veterans somewhere they can find support and community.

Today, members of the club will be marching in the Oakham's remembrance parade, for the past and present armed force staff.

Mark Taylor, an Oakham veteran who served in the British Army for 26 years, founded the Oakham veterans club 5 years ago.

Over the last five years he has grown a community of serving and retired armed forces staff, coming together to combat loneliness.

Mark Taylor says the breakfast club gives veterans a chance to “tell stories, issues and concerns”.

“They can ask advice without any judgment” Mark added.

With 20% of the Rutland community having a connection to the Armed Forces, Mark thought it was important to offer support and allow veterans to return to a tribe.

The public can watch the March at 2pm, starting from Oakham castle, along the high street.
