People in Rutland are being encouraged to take part in this year's Shoebox Appeal.

They can be filled with gifts, such as toys, stationary, t-shirts or jewellery sets, and then dropped off at Oakham Baptist Church next week (from 15 November).

The shoeboxes will then be sent to children around the world this Christmas.

Children will also be able to take part in craft activities at the church next week, where they will be able to make something to add to the shoebox.

Suzanne Johnson told Greatest Hits Radio why she thought it would be good for the church:

"We're looking to be more involved in the community, be more open to the community.

"I know it's a project lots of the schools have taken part in in the past.

"We don't have a drop off centre in Rutland, I believe there is one in Stamford, but there's nothing in Melton or Rutland.

"So we thought it would be a brilliant idea for us to be a drop off centre."

Suzanne also said she thinks it is a fantastic idea:

"You can put it together yourself, you can choose the items so you're in control of the budget.

"You can put something together that's very personal.

"If you register that online, which is super easy to do on the Operation Christmas Child website, you get a barcode and you can track which country your shoebox goes to."

There are gift suggestions online.
