Rutland parents invited to meeting with doctors, as Leicester A&E rule remains in place
Doctors in Leicester are inviting parents to join an online Q&A on measles care and prevention
People across Leicestershire and Rutland are being invited by doctors to join an online 'Marvellous Medicine' meeting on measles care and prevention, with a warning of a rise in infectious diseases still in place.
From 6pm-8pm on Thursday 15th February, attendees can hear from two paediatric emergency medicine consultants and a GP by joining a link accessible via the University of Leicester Hospitals webpage.
Due to a rise in infectious diseases, a limit on the number of parents or carers allowed to accompany children in the emergency department at Leicester's Hospitals is still in place.
Paediatrician Dr Katie Meimeti said: 'We are experiencing rising numbers of measles cases. In Leicester, all of the cases that are confirmed, they are unvaccinated people. Why are these people unvaccinated? They've been probably influenced by theories that are not true.'
'As hospital doctors, we are focused on ensuring people do have the best information to look after themselves and their loved ones, in case they have measles.'
'Measles is a very contagious illness, that can cause very serious complications especially to people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and young children.'
University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust said it accepts it's not always possible or in someone's best interests to attend ED with only one other person, and personal circumstances are taken into account.
