Rutland's foodbank's has launched a 'reverse advent calendar' to encourage people to donate over December.

Instead of, or as well as, opening a piece of chocolate for ourselves each morning, we're being encouraged to send in 25 different food items so the charity's got enough supplies.

So far this year, the foodbank have received a 13% increase in referrals compared to last year.

They are supporting 218 households across the county this year, compared to 186 in 2022.

Chair of the charity, Ali Wainwright, says it can be difficult to keep shelves full especially during winter.

She added: "Get together with friends or family and donate one thing each.

"We wouldn't expect people to donate everything themselves, because the pressure is on everyone."
