Rutland foodbank expecting another busy twelve months

It's after demand for their services almost doubled in the last year

Rutland foodbank expect to get 'busier and busier' this year, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

We've been speaking to them as new figures from the Trussell Trust show that the charity delivered 45% more food parcels between 2020-2021, compared to the year before the coronavirus pandemic.

Alison Wainwright works there.

She isn't surprised by the rise in demand:

"A lot of people have had such significant changes in their lives.

"Even before the pandemic, people in certain areas of the county were struggling, so we did expect to be busy once the coronavirus crisis escalated.

"Going forward, I think we will get busier because of the changes to things like furlough and people's housing situations, so we'll continue to do as much as we can."

We went on to ask Alison how difficult it's been for her volunteers:

"All of the people helping out here have done amazingly well, and that includes the food donors and supporters as well.

"We don't want anyone to struggle in this lovely county, so we'll be doing our best to keep up the good work.

"I hope that people don't think that there is a stigma with using the foodbank.

"We're just here to help people, none of us know what's around the corner, especially after the last year we've all had.

"If you are struggling to feed your family, just get in touch with us."
