Prime minister Rishi Sunak has fired the starting gun for the general election race – with candidates set to go to the polls on July 4.

There’s been a boundary shakeup in this area, with a new seat in the Commons for Rutland and Stamford, and another for Grantham and Bourne.

Current MP for Melton and Rutland Alicia Kearns will be standing for Rutland and Stamford and will try to keep her place in Parliament from the candidates who have so far been announced: James Moore (Lib Dem), Christopher Clowes (Reform) and Emma Louise Baker (Green).

Other parties are due to announce their candidates before the June 7th nomination deadline.

Standing for Grantham and Bourne are current MP for Grantham and Stamford Gareth Davies, who is expected to face opposition from contenders that include Vipul Bechar (Labour), Anne Gayfer (Green) and Mike Rudkin (Reform).
