Rutland foodbank turned down 75,000 Easter egg offer due to mass local donations
Over 150 goodies were given to staff ahead of the Easter Bank holiday
A Rutland charity turned down Cadbury's offer of free Easter Eggs due to the overwhelming amount of local support this holiday season.
The chocolate manufacturer has sent 75,000 goodies to over 200 Trussell Trust foodbanks, but staff at the Rutland Foodbank thought they'd already stockpiled enough.
Chair of the charity Ali Wainwright says she was left with no other choice but to decline - due to already receiving more than enough eggs from people in the local community.
'We felt that we could expect donations from people locally and, oh my goodness - didn't they come through? We had at least 150 eggs donated', she said.
'Unfortunately some of them were a little bit close to the deadline so we're hoping to distribute them next week, but we're so grateful to everyone who's helped us.'
'They're not just for kids, but for adults too. We had one lady who was so delighted when she was sent an Easter egg. She said she'd not had one in ages and it was such a good thing to feel.'
'Through the generosity of people in Rutland, we can pass that kindness forward.'
