Rutland County Council has shared its targets for 2023, as well as what residents can expect to see from them in the New Year.

Council leader Lucy Stephenson says the county's new year resolutions lie in reducing household waste and continuing to provide exemplary care for the community.

Another aim, is to secure funding for schools across Rutland.

"The amount of money that the department of education gives for each child is less in rural areas than it is in urban areas, and it's important that we make sure we get our fair share."

Importantly, Rutland County Council also want to make sure that residents are supported through the cost of living crisis, especially those that are vulnerable.

"Rutland will continue to promote help to people and signpost to organisations," she continued. "Contact your energy companies for support, and make sure you know that you're not alone."

What I would like to see is that we are learning where practice works for the benefit of our residents, and we are replicating that in other areas. "

For a final New Year resolution, the council leader ushered the importance of reducing waste in the community...

"it sounds a really simple silly thing, but actually seeing everyone reduce their waste. So there are things we can all do, and we will be working on more campaigns about waste reduction."
