Rutland County Council has voted to keep the same chairman and vice-chairman.

At the annual general meeting (20/5), members voted unanimously for Coun Andrew Brown (Ind – Lyddington) to remain as chairman for the coming year.

Coun Samantha Harvey (Ind – Cottesmore) was elected unanimously to remain as vice-chairman.

Coun Brown said: “I am once again honoured and humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me.

“Rest assured I will continue to serve this council and this county to the best of my ability

“Let’s not forget that we are actually on public display here, and we have to uphold the reputation of this council. I hope that I’ve done that in the past year, and I look forward to working with you all for another year.”

Coun Harvey said: “I’ve had a very good year. It’s a very different role to be vice-chair of a council from a cabinet or normal member, with one of the biggest things that I have found is that the representation really does matter.”

She added that several people, particularly women who are older than her, have expressed how proud they are that she is vice chairman of a council, and Coun Harvey said she was pleasantly surprised they took the time to say so.

The next meeting of Rutland County Council is Monday, July 15.
