Rutland bake sale for Afghan refugees
It's been organised by six local teenagers
A group of six 13-year-olds are staging a bake sale in Rutland today - to raise money for Afghan refugees.
The Year 9 pupils have been busy in their kitchens all week.
They're holding the event on the Whissendine village green on Saturday morning between 10am and 12noon.
Michelle Greening's daughter is one of those taking part - she's been telling us there's a great range of cakes for people to choose from:
“We’ve got fruit loafs, some low-fat ones and one of my favourites – the Victoria Sponge with fresh cream. There’ll be all sorts of delicious choices.”
The teenagers are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds to support Afghan refugees.
Michelle she says they initially set a target of £100 - but they've already smashed that:
“They got £410 over five days so they upped it to £500 – but now they’re just thinking as much as they can, you know, reach for the skies – maybe they’ll get £1000 – who knows.”
