Rutland & Stamford's MP is calling for more work to be done to the A1 in our region, as she says the road is 'truly dangerous'.

Short and narrow slip-roads along the stretch of the major road are said to be causing people to slow down while still on the main road.

Alicia Kearns says for locals, it's a real concern, "When I drive around our communities, the A1 is the number one kind of safety concern, it is the issue that has raised time and time again with me.

" It's heartbreaking to meet the families of those who've lost loved ones on the A1."

The stretch of the A1 has seen some improvements in recent times, with five safety upgrades in the region.

But the MP wants more work to be done on the slip roads and also to the central reservation, as well as the conception of a news sign warning people of the dangers.

Alicia Kearns MP plans to take the petition to Westminster, where the new Labour government will hear her calls for the improvements.

She said, "So the fact that we're at 530 so quickly is amazing. I'm going to keep it open and then I will present it to Parliament.

"What that means is I get to control the floor of the House and force the Government to hear that I'm presenting the petition and then the government has to formally respond to that petition. So fingers crossed we can really make a difference."
