It remains illegal to swim in Anglian Water reservoirs most of the time

Anglian Water are reminding people in the Stamford and Rutland area to not swim in Rutland Water or any of their reservoirs.

The advice comes this Bank Holiday weekend, when there's typically an increase in the amount of activity around Rutland Water, particularly during warmer weather.

But rules remain the same - no swimming is allowed at any points other than at specific sites manned by lifeguards - such as the Beach at Rutland open later in the year.

Rutland Water is an 'operational site', meaning there's moving underwater machinery and currents

Regan Harris, from Anglian Water, says restrictions are in place due to a number of hidden health and safety concerns that can be very dangerous to both adults and children:

'Firstly, they're pretty deep and they get very very cold. So even though the weather outside might be nice and warm, that water will not do you any favours if you jump into it in terms of cold water shock. which can lead to people getting into quite a bit of trouble.

'There's a lot of machinery under the water, not to mention strong currents and mud and weeds which can also give people a problem if they were to swim. So our message is, it may be really tempting when the weather warms up to take a dip but we really would ask people not to do that.'
