Railway engineers say the damage caused to Foster's Railway Bridge near Ketton over the weekend could cause disruption for two weeks.

It's after a heavy goods vehicle carrying containers to and from a Rutland Household Waste and Recycling Centre collided with the bridge.

Network Rail say the railway track was "so badly damaged that a significant part of it needs to be replaced" and that they're aiming to reopen the A6121 Stamford Road as soon as possible.

Cross Country trains confirmed that the line between Leicester and Peterborough will be shut for a fortnight, and that services would be replaced by buses.

The driver of the vehicle, which collided with Foster's Bridge on Saturday 5 November, was taken to hospital over the weekend as a precaution.

A local diversion was subsequently put in place via North Luffenham, allowing access between Ketton and South Luffenham.

Cottesmore Household Waste and Recycling Centre is currently closed today (Monday 5 November) due to the loss of a collection vehicle.

Rutland County Council say they'll be reviewing the incident with its waste contractor, Biffa.
