Crumbling concrete has been found in Peterborough Town Hall.

A city council spokesperson says what appears to be RAAC has been identified in the walls and roof of the second floor.

Areas of the building without RAAC are still being used and open to the public.

A spokesperson said: “During a recent inspection of the Town Hall we discovered what appears to be RAAC in the walls and roof of the second floor of the building.

"As a result, we informed the Department for Work and Pensions and NHS, who lease this space from us, of the need to vacate the second floor of the building with immediate effect.

"We are currently carrying out a more detailed survey to understand the works that will be required to ensure the second floor of the building is safe to use.

"All other parts of the building are not affected by these works, including the Council Chamber, Mayor's Parlour and the reception area and remain open."
