A Rutland woman has been telling Greatest Hits Radio that attending the Queen's funeral was an experience that will live with her "forever".

It's estimated that a quarter of a million people walked past Queen Elizabeth as she was lying-in-state in Westminster Hall ahead of the funeral.

The UK's national period of mourning has ended - with flags returning to full-mast at the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street.

"The memories will live with me forever - I will never ever forget that day"

Barbara Crellin was made an MBE by the late Queen for her community first aid volunteering in the county, and sat among world leaders and members of the royal family in Westminster Abbey.

"I was there with 2000 plus people. It was quite a somber atmosphere when I got in there, but it was reverent, full of respect, reflective and the music was amazing."

"I was in touching distance of all those important people who were there, the most important being the Royal Family - the way they bore themselves was just unbelievable.

"The Royal Family probably had the most impact on me - they looked so alone. At a normal funeral you'd give them a hug, and you couldn't.

"The memories will live with me forever - I will never ever forget that day. It was something I never expected to experience and, to be honest, I will never experience again."

The Queen was finally laid to rest with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh during a private evening burial service in Windsor attended just by close family.

No date has been fixed for the coronation of Charles, but it is expected that, in line with royal precedent and due to the large amount of planning involved, there will be at least several months between the funeral and the crowning of the new monarch.
