Public health bosses in Stamford and Rutland have said that it's vital that children keep up good hand hygiene over the Christmas Holidays.
In a bid to combat some nasty viruses that are spreading in primary schools, such as Strep A, flu, norovirus and covid, they are urging children, and their parents, to keep hands clean to avoid more illness.
19 children across the UK have died as a result of Strep A; while none of the reported cases came from Stamford and Rutland, public health officials still want people to be vigilant. They are also hoping that the Christmas break will act as a circuit breaker.
Mike Sandys is the public director of health for the county, and stresses that we should be mindful when seeing our vulnerable loved ones over the festive period.
"The same things we spoke about during Covid, will help us all enjoy Christmas. So combination of good hand hygiene, washing your hands, washing down these hard services, and good respiratory hygiene, so if you are feeling poorly, don't go and mix and don't go and splutter over people."
"If you are coughing and sneezing make sure you use a tissue. We're back to the same advice as before Covid. Bag it, bin it and kill it. There isn't some magic new advice."
