People across Peterborough, Stamford and Rutland have been recognised in the King's 2023 birthday honours list.

What honours will they be receiving?

A number of people from our counties have been awarded MBEs (Member of the British Empire), which are granted for an outstanding achievement or service to the community, which has had a long-term, significant impact and will stand out as an example to others.

Others are receiving BEMs (British Empire Medal), which are granted for a ‘hands-on’ service to the local community. This could be a long-term charitable or voluntary activity, or innovative work of a relatively short duration (3 to 4 years) that has made a significant difference.

Here are all those receiving MBEs and BMEs in the King's 2023 birthday honours list from Peterborough, Stamford and Rutland:

Juliet Victoria Burgess-Ray BEM - Rutland - for services to the community in Rutland

Juliet Victoria Burgess-Ray

For the past 15 years, Juliet has acted as the Community Access Defibrillator (CAD) Coordinator.

She has been responsible for the placement and financing of currently 72 community public access defibrillators in Rutland.

She also travels the county inspecting and maintaining defibrillators, which saves lives in areas which are far from hospitals and suffer from longer ambulance response times.

William (Bill) Austin Brown BEM - Leicestershire - for services to the community in Coalville, Leicestershire

Whilst in the army Bill worked alongside Taste for Adventure, a charity that provides less fortunate young people with the opportunity to go on holiday.

He arranged for a group to visit his 35 Engineer Regiment in Germany and took them on trips, including the Royal Engineer’s Ski Lodge, giving them a unique and exciting holiday.

He's now Chairman of Taste for Adventure, assisted in purchasing and renovating an Outward-Bound Centre, and was asked to join the Leicestershire & Rutland County Committee, holding several posts including Recruitment & Retention Office and County Training Officer, whilst also holding offices at branch level.

He provides support to veterans and homeless people, including assisting a veteran who was discharged from the army, by arranging housing, food and supported him in finding a job.
