Peterborough United were shocked, at home, by a Carlisle United side destined for the drop.

The Posh have been one of the top sides in England's third-tier this season, but were unable to find their shooting boots against an unfancied side.

Darren Ferguson's side were heavy favourites for the game at the Weston Homes Stadium, though the leagues top-scorers couldn't overcome Carlisle who reignited their slim survival hopes.

Midfielder Jon Mellish was the standout player for rock-bottom Carlisle, as he scored a hat-trick to put his side 3-0 up.

Joe Randall got on the score-sheet for The Posh, but the travelling side held on for a memorable victory against a side at the opposite end of the table.

Next up for Peterborough is an away trip against Leyton Orient on Monday.

Kick-off is at 3pm.
